This 1st course in a 3-part series introduces you to the history, theory, and skills that characterize the standard of care for the treatment of clinically significant noncompliance and other problem behavior in young children, Behavioral Parent Training (BPT). By the end of the course, you will understand the rationale for BPT, be familiar with the fundamental BPT skills parents learn in treatment with their children, and have explored research on the impact of and challenges in BPT delivery.  This series is instructed by Rex Forehand, Ph.D. and Deborah Jones, Ph.D. Rex Forehand, Ph.D., is a University Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Vermont. He has studied and written extensively about parenting and child behavior, including co-developing and authoring Helping the Noncompliant Child (HNC; McMahon & Forehand, 2003). Deborah Jones, Ph.D., is a Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She teaches, studies, and writes about parents, other caregivers, and children, including how to increase access to, engagement in, and outcomes of treatments that work like HNC. This course is to be followed by Helping the Noncompliant Child Coach Level 2 and then Level 3.
