Frequently Asked Questions
Am I required by law to take this training?
Vermont law does not require mandated reports to take this training, and there is no penalty for not taking it, however, most employers require their employees to take the training as a condition of employment if the employee’s role falls within the mandated reporter definition.
How often am I required to take this training?
There is no obligation to take the training more than once, unless your employer requires it. Having said that, it can be valuable to retake the training periodically to refresh your memory, and to keep up with updated information, guidance, and reforms.
What if I already took a different version of this training in the past- do I need to take this new training?
We recommend taking the new training because it contains updated information and guidance that was not included in the previous version. If you completed the previous version of the training prior to 2026 we are unable to provide a certificate of completion.
Can the mandated reporter training be completed collectively by a group of participants?
Yes. People may participate in the training together as a group. However, each individual should follow along through their own account. The training includes quizzes and other individual measures of assessment, and the system cannot generate a certificate of completion for a group. For the best learning experience and to ensure participants have the opportunity to engage with and complete all of the training activities and assessments, we recommend that each person access and follow the training individually through their own account.
If I'm a state employee, how should I take this course?
If you work for FSD (or DCF), you need to take this course through the state: link to training for state employees.
All others should take the course through VT-CWTP’s Learning Management System: link to training.
