Act 108:
Mandated Reporting Reform

In May 2026, Act 108 created the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Working Group. The Working Group was established to review Vermont’s current systems for preventing, identifying, and responding to child maltreatment. The group is tasked with evaluating gaps, supporting coordination among agencies, and recommending potential policy changes to protect children and support families.

The Working Group must hold its first meeting by August 15, 2026. By April 1, 2027, the group will provide an interim report to the House Committee on Human Services, the Senate Committee on Health and Welfare, and the House and Senate Committees on Judiciary regarding the group’s progress. By October 1, 2027, the group will submit a final report with findings and any recommended legislative proposals to those same committees.
