A Mindful Moment

Noticing Trees

Whenever I felt stressed during college, I would sit outside and spend a few minutes looking at the trees around me.  At the time I didn’t know I was doing anything mindful, but I always felt better after I did this.

Since then, I’ve learned that looking at trees, or even at photos of trees, can lower our blood pressure, lower levels of fear and anger, relax our muscles, and even reduce pain.*

Many aspects of trees might be what grabs your attention when you give yourself a moment with them—their colors, the ways their leaves sound in the breeze, how they look against the sky….

Try noticing a tree today and see what happens.
